Working Notes about the Project TRANS GHOST STUDIO
As an artist I have developed a visual practice based on photography, and more specifically on image composition, that is the construction of an image based on using existing photographs, combining them together to create a new image, keeping perspective and light coherent, making the montage invisible. This technique presents a composite image as if it were a snapshot. The artifice becomes secondary, the composition of all elements together in the new image become a vessel of new meaning.
This technique allows the use of photography to combine abstract thoughts together and to compose an idea.
The new images that I make are composed following my strong sense for composition but also for photographic textures, light gradients, and the history of photographic films (using the aesthetic of black and white, monochrome or infrared films). It is a sort of painting technique with photographic precision.
Ghost Trans Studio In My Studio, in 2021 and 2022, I have been thinking about photography through different mediums: painting, ceramic sculptures, prints, writing. By Nov 2022, I have decided to compile this research into one process and one medium that is image compositing with these objects, printed on duratrans paper.
The works I am making are some sort of a ghost trace of my practice, in my studio.
All images are set in my (fictional) studio, they are presented as large scale 1/1 prints. Some are presented as negatives (the neon signs), some are presented as night shots, showing the activity of the artist in the studio as a night activity, somewhat mysterious.
Or maybe the night shots suggest the idea that these shots were made at night, with the artist being absent.
The artist is absent.
The photos show ghost artworks: negative neon signs, paintings that are only visible through traces, photographs of portraits on the wall (artists' portraits, also absent).
